“Ute Mountain Ute Tribe”
Come experience a trip back into time and witness a special Native American interpretation of the culturally diverse homelands of the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe. Spend time in our incomparable Ute Mountain Tribal Park with one of our knowledgeable Native American Ute tour guides. Guides interpret Ute Indian History, Ute pictographs, geological land formations, and Ancestral Pueblo*, Petroglyphs, artifacts and dwellings. The Tribal Park is unique because: Past Ute Leaders wanted to Present the tribal park to the public as it was found. There are pottery sherds, tools, historical & prehistoric sites visible, geological land formations, no running water fountains, no paved trails, hundreds thousands of visitors are not present in the Tribal Park, Ute Tribal Members are tour guides, and personalized tours are conducted for the Tribal Park visitor. Regular tours begin at Tribal Park Visitor Center @ 8:30 a.m. We can transport tour participants from Cortez and Cortez Airport with prior reservations. Note: Pictographs are Native American paintings on rocks whereas petroglyphs are carvings into rock.
You can't even visit this park without an Ute guide, but it's entirely worth it to book a full or half day tour. It's less crowded and more personal than nearby Mesa Verde, and the guides are all incredible storytellers. They also offer camping in the park too.
Looks like a worthwhile shop. Though you must sign-up for a tour guide at another location. Check the website for information. The map link takes you to the reservation cemetary and not the place to register for the tours.
