“see stunning beauty on Nevada's oldest state park”
A slot canyon is a narrow canyon formed by the wear of water rushing through rock. A slot canyon is significantly deeper than it is wide. Some slot canyons can measure less than 1 metre (3 ft 3 in) across at the top but drop more than 30 metres (98 ft) to the floor of the canyon. Most slot canyons are formed in sandstone and limestone rock, although slot canyons in other rock types such as granite and basalt are possible. Even in sandstone and limestone, only a very small number of creeks will form slot canyons. This is due to a combination of the particular characteristics of the rock, and regional rainfall. You can find this one on the White Domes hike, which also takes you past an old movie set! Valley of Fire is Nevada’s oldest and largest state park, dedicated in 1935. Ancient trees and early man are represented throughout the park by areas of petrified wood and 3,000 year-old Indian petroglyphs. Popular activities include camping, hiking, picnicking and photography. The park offers a full-scale visitor center with extensive interpretive displays. Several group use areas are also available. The park is open all year. Valley of Fire State Park is six miles from Lake Mead and 55 miles northeast of Las Vegas via Interstate 15 and on exit 75
I was there in August 2020 and it was 108 degrees. So we didn’t do any of the hikes. But even so, it is absolutely beautiful and well laid out. Plan for two hours.
most gorgeous camping trip of my life. I adored the rock formations and bouldering here!
This place is amazing! $15 cover for the vehicle. Lots of paths to do small hikes or you can just drive around and pull off here and there. Highly recommend!
