“Iconic Landmark in LA!”
The Historic Aztec Hotel was constructed in 1925 in the foothills of Los Angeles along original U.S. Route 66 (also known as the Will Rogers Highway for the humorist and colloquially known as the “Main Street of America”). This ornately designed Hotel with Mayan and Aztec architecture is situated in downtown Monrovia. It was restored and placed on the National Historic Register in 2003. Today, the Hotel is one of only a few Mayan-style building remaining in the United States. In 1978, the Aztec Hotel was named a National Historic Landmark and was included in the National Register of Historic Places. It has become a popular stopover for travelers along original Route 66.The original tile floor remains in perfect condition and the dome-shaped windows are original. Stained glass, well-preserved murals, lighting fixtures, a unique fireplace, and Mayan sculptures remain from the original design. Stop to take a look at this bit of Southern California's history. There is much to see in this unique piece of architecture.
What a unique place to stay the Aztec Hotel was! When we saw it from the first minute we knew we wanted to stay there in order to explore this place!
It looks so different, architecturally speaking, but inside it is marvelous! The staff is great, polite and very helpful!
The room was fantastic and very clean. Spacious, with a large bathroom, you do not need anything else in order to spend a lovely and interesting night, while enjoying the rest at those comfortable beds!
Do not miss visiting this place if you are around Monrovia...and certainly do not hesitate entering, you will not regret it!
