“Your Home Away From Home on Route 66 ~”

The Munger Moss originally was a barbecue place located on the Big Piney River at Devil's Elbow, just east of Ft. Leonardwood, MO. It was started in the late 30's or early 40's. A couple by the name of Munger ran it, Mr. Munger passed away, and Mrs. Munger remarried a gentleman by the name of Emmett Moss. Hence Munger Moss Sandwich shop came to life. It became very famous for its' barbecue recipe, and was known up and down Highway 66 as such. Don't know for sure when the Hudson's took over the barbecue place, but do know it was war years. The tale is that it took all day for a truck loaded with an airplane to go from the bottom of the hill to the top out of Devil's Elbow. That was when they started cutting down the big hill that you see in the postcards known as the Hooker Cut.

Ask to spend a night in one of their Route 66 themed rooms. Classic roadside motel.

we had a pleasant stay at the Monger Moss, very nice people and the rooms were clean, it is a dated hotel but the wife called very charming. we would stay here again. good deal

We loved staying here last summer. Ramona was a lovely host, telling us so much history and showing us her photos of the days back when. We needed help getting back on the Route and to things we wanted to see and she gave us very good directions and a bit of history on where we were going to as well. The rooms were a real throwback, the bathroom in our room was very much like at my grandmother's place when I was a kid. Great location for food and shopping.

Our room was cute & very clean! Loved the authentic archway into the shower. Ramona, Proprietor, was having a great time telling us about their unique, world traveling guests.
