“Developed by the CCC”
A historic campground built by the CCC, Powell Springs is flanked by Hackberry Wash, a seasonal creek. Ponderosa pines provide shade in the campground, and riparian vegetation grows along the wash. Directions: Take Hwy 69 to Dewey, left on Hwy 169. Approximately 9.5 miles, left on Cherry Rd, a dirt road accessible to passenger cars except during wet weather. Follow road approximately 4.5 miles to campground on left.
We stopped here on the way to grand canyon. The campground was clean, quiet and very nice. You can hear coyote at night, it was pretty cool. Would stay here again.
Definitely a cool spot to camp. Was able to gather quite a bit of firewood from the surrounding woods. Was pretty full the night we camped but I think that was due to spring break and a lot of people being on vacation. Heard coyotes late at night nearby which was cool. I definitely recommend this place to those that like to camp a bit off the grid. And best part it's free!
