“Feels like the 1800s”
Experience yesterday in the old west at Four Mile where the outhouse talks. Step back for family fun and living history as you walk through the 50 open door buildings at the old historic site. Admission only $6 per person. Unique shopping & pet friendly.
I am not giving this a rating right now as we were unable to pay the entrance fee (which we would have gladly done)! They only accept cash (something we were unaware of). And since it was out in the boonies, it didn't make sense to go get cash and then come back out as we still had a ton of sites to see that day.
SO....BRING CASH WITH YOU if you plan to take a tour because they do not accept credit cards =)
It's an ok stop. It was probably a lot nicer 10-20 years ago. A lot of it has fallen into disrepair. They do give you an old tape recorder to carry around to explain the different buildings. The staff was very friendly and knowledgable. The gift shop had some antiques for sale.
Great place to visit, but the apps gives the wrong location! Please check Google maps before going. It is not far but a different direction from Custer, SD.
What a wonderful little stop. The lady who owns it is so friendly and pleasant, we could have talked to her all day. We didnt have cash on us and after she greeted us we were more than happy to run to an atm real quick so we could support this little roadside gem. A nice historical landmark for people to get a sense of a small town life so many years ago.
The owner was so pleasant and sweet! We were able to pay with a credit card unlike some earlier reviews, with a small fee added on which I was happy to do! Neat old buildings but many weren't probing, as they were new lumber. But it was great to see what a little town would have looked like back then. For only $6 a person.... it's worth it. It's sad to see things deteriorating so much. 😥 but the actual restrooms there (not the old outhouses 😆) were really really nice my husband and son said! I would still recommend it but just know it's not all original or all period items.
Self-guided walk through the old buildings. Lots of rusty old items and notes about everything so you can understand what you’re looking at. It’s hokey, but for kids learning about the Old West or Pioneer days, it’s a great place to explore (carefully! Buildings are not structurally sound!).
