“Home to Bixby BBQ'n Blues Festival”
2012 marks the 11th anniversary for the Bixby BBQ’n Music Festival hosted by: The Rotary Club of Bixby. This event is completely organized by volunteers. Our efforts have been well rewarded with loyal patrons and growing yearly attendance. Thank you for coming, enjoy your time within with us within the 32 acre area know as Washington Irving Park and Arboretum Good food is the heart of this event. The Saturday competition is Kansas City Barbeque Society sanctioned and draws the best teams and chefs from near and far. You will have a limited opportunity to “JUDGE” the smoky flavored meats of over eighty teams. Purchase a $5.00 Taster Kit and you will delight your taste buds. Taster Kits are limited in number and are only sold during the times of the official competition: Taster Kit Sales begin at 11:00 am Saturday and will be sold only until 1:00 pm or until the food runs out. Remember you will be the judge and each team is trying to win your vote (ticket) for their chances in prize money. During the entire festival plenty of good food available in “Vendors Row” We have local companies that offer a great menu of: BBQ, Hamburgers, Corn Dogs, Ice Cream, Popcorn, Snow Cones, Lemonade just to mention a few. There is a huge area dedicated to kids: Inflatable jumps for all age groups, Pony rides and a petting zoo, FREE Table top carnival games, FREE face painting plus a KIDS ZONE entertainment stage with magic and events like the “Minute to Win ” competition. The big kid in all of us can enjoy the Paint Ball Gallery, Rock Climbing Wall or the Nascar Simulator. The entire park has a background of good music resounding through the trees. The grassy expanse of the Washington Irving Amphitheater will host a variety of music. Candy Coburn is our Friday night headliner and the famed group; Stars Go Dim will be the Saturday night highlight. Proceeds go right back into the community for projects like High School Scholarships and the Bixby Outreach Center food bank assisting all of south Tulsa county. The “Third Grade Dictionary Project” helps eliminate illiteracy by distributing of 800 dictionaries to local students. Other benefactors are the “Rotary Leadership Youth Camps”, where students develop leadership, communication and problem solving skills, and “Shop with a Cop”, a cooperative youth intervention program involving local law enforcement, just to name a few. On a wider scale, the Bixby Rotary helps fund “Medical Supplies Network”, a project to send surplus medical supplies internationally. The “Shoes for Orphans Souls” is another campaign with a global outreach. When all the excitement, fun and entertainment of the Bixby BBQ’n Music Festival is complete, funds raised benefit our community and beyond.
