“providing haven for wildlife”
Located along the "Big Muddy" Missouri River; DeSoto National Wildlife Refuge provides a haven for wildlife amidst the subtle prairie grasses; towering cottonwood trees; and glistening DeSoto Lake. Thousands of ducks and geese use the refuge for food and rest during migration. The refuge also houses the magnificent collection of Civil War-era artifacts from the Steamboat Bertrand; which sank in the the Missouri during its maiden voyage to the gold mines of Montana in 1865. Some areas may be closed due to Missouri River flooding.
