“history surrounds you”
Hello and welcome to Rose Hill Cemetery. Historic Macon Cemetery where Duane Allman and Berry Oakley are buried. It was a hangout and artistic inspiration for the Allman Brothers Band during their early years. The Allman Brothers' slide guitarist Duane Allman and bassist Berry Oakley are interred here, side by side. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973 and has been a popular attraction to those who love the Allman Brothers. The Historic Rose Hill Cemetery Foundation was founded in 2002 by several dedicated individuals and groups who realized that a united effort was necessary. The foundation was born out of this effort. Since its inception, the Foundation has been responsible for restoring/remounting several statues, publishing a catalog of Confederate soldier burials, and restoring the gatehouse at the main cemetery entrance. All of this has been done through volunteer work and private donations from people just like you. If you would like to contribute (and automatically become a foundation member), please download this membership form.
Beautiful and historic. Didn't have a lot of time but well worth the stop. Go to the far right where the soldiers lay by the train tracks
It's HUGE! Didn't have enough time to really take it all in, but a great stop for sure.
